Borys has a strong track record of getting things done for Etobicoke and Canada. While serving as our community’s Member of Parliament from 2004-2011, he introduced six pieces of legislation, including “Boris’ Law,” in memory of an Etobicoke teen, that would have made bail conditions tougher for offences committed while in the possession of a firearm.

Borys also brought forward many motions in the House of Commons, including motions to suspend night flights over Etobicoke.

Borys led by personal example. He was one of the lowest-spending MPs in Canada and one of the top parliamentarians introducing new legislation.

A third generation Ukrainian Canadian and local business owner, Borys Wrzesnewskyj lived in Etobicoke Centre for over two decades – proudly representing the riding in the Canadian House of Commons from 2004 to 2011.

Borys received his Bachelor of Commerce from Trinity College – University of Toronto in 1983 and quickly gravitated towards humanitarian and pro-democracy work – helping organize and finance the People’s Movement of Ukraine in the late 1980s, and in support of the referendum for the independence of Ukraine in 1991. Borys initiated and was actively involved in organizing the Canadian delegation headed by former PM John Turner to the contested Ukrainian election during the Orange Revolution of 2004.

While a Member of the House of Commons, Borys held various portfolios including Citizenship and Immigration, Crown Corporations, Foreign Affairs, and Multiculturalism. In 2008, he was awarded the Order of Prince Yaroslav the Wise by the Ukrainian President for his distinguished services to the people of Ukraine. In 2014 he was awarded the Knight’s Cross Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland by Poland’s President for work on Canada Poland relations.
Borys is fluent in English, Ukrainian and Polish, and is the owner of Future Bakery Limited, and M-C Dairy Limited.
